The latest UNAIDS estimates show that since the start of the global HIV&AIDS pandemic, over 75 million people have become infected with HIV and over 32 million people have died from AIDS-related illnesses. As of June 2022, UNAIDS estimated that there were about 38m People Living with HIV (PLHIV) in the world with the East and Southern African countries, home to 700m people, contributing 45%.

Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) was established under the Office of the President by statute of parliament in 1992 to coordinate the multi-sectoral response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
