UAC BOARD MEMBERS

The Board is the supreme decision making organ of Uganda AIDS Commission and it is responsible for providing policy guidelines and strategic direction to the Secretariat in implementation of its mandate. It comprises of a full-time Chairperson and members who are drawn from Government, Non-Government sectors, People Living with HIV and individuals selected for their outstanding expertise. They are all appointed by the President. The current Board is composed of 11 members.

Dr. Nelson Musoba

Director General UAC ,& Secretary to the Board

Dr. Musoba is the Director General of Uganda AIDS Commission. He is a medical doctor with more than 20 years of clinical and public health experience, He leads a team of experts in coordinating the national multi-sectoral HIV response. He is a member of the National Drug Authority Board and represents the public sector on the Uganda Country Coordinating Mechanism for the Global Fund. Dr. Musoba served more than half of his working life at the Ministry of Health as Senior Health Planner.

Prof . Rhoda Wanyenze

Board Member

Dr Rhoda Wanyenze MBChB, MPH, PhD, is a Professor and Dean at Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH). She has >26 years’ experience in infectious diseases research, program management, and capacity building in Uganda and sub-Saharan Africa. She has been engaged in HIV and other infectious diseases work for >26 years, at various levels (clinical, program management, research, and policy development) and has effectively managed large service, capacity building, and research projects with multiple partnerships.

Dr. Charles Wendo (MJC, PGDMC, BVM; MUK)

Board Member

Dr. Charles Wendo is a media trainer, health and science journalist, and veterinary doctor with more than 20 years’ experience in the news media. He trains journalists on how to report health and science, and scientists on communicating research. Several thousand journalists and scientists in Africa, Asia and Europe have benefited from his trainings. Dr. Wendo has a wealth of skills and experience in writing about health and science, managing teams, editing, page layout and graphic design.

Dr. Lydia Mungherera M.B.Ch.B

Board Member

A Medical Doctor by Profession, Dr. Lydia has served as a Senior medical officer/ Health Educator in Government Hospitals in Uganda and South Africa. In addition to her Medical profession, she has been able to extend her skills and experience in the HIV/AIDS/TB health sector channeled through the Civil Society Organization, alongside her contribution in Gender and Human Rights activism and advocacy. She has co-founded a number of grassroots initiatives as well as National, Regional and Global Gender, Human Rights and Treatment access movements.

Dr. Richard Nam

Board Member

Dr. Richard Nam is a proactive, dynamic, and self-motivated person with High standards of ethical conduct, reliable with proven interpersonal skills who can perfectly deliver to meet tight deadlines under minimum supervision. He obtained a medical degree bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1983 from Makerere University, a Masters in Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2001 from Makerere University, and a PhD in Health Service Administration in 2015 from Atlantic International University USA).

Charles Emma Ofwono

Board Member

Charles Emma Ofwono, Founder and CEO of SHIELD - Strategic Health Initiative for Empowerment, Learning & Development has a liking for the youth and he has worked with Naguru Teenage Information and Health Centre as a Peer Counselor & Youth Coordinator, Programs Officer with Reach A Hand Uganda and Business Development Lead with DSW/Action 4 Health Uganda. He’s also an executive member of the Society of Adolescent Health in Uganda (SAHU) and currently supporting the Innovation Village as a Community Program Associate for Eastern region.

Fred Barongo

Board Member

Fred is a chartered governance and procurement professional with long experience in corporate governance, management and administration. He has been a director and trustee at the National Forum of PHLA Networks in Uganda (NAFOPHANU), AIDS Information Centre (AIC), Uganda Network of AIDS Services Organizations (UNASO), Civil Society Fund (CSF) and Uganda Country Coordination Mechanisms (CCM) for the Global Fund among others. Key boards positions held include Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Chairperson Board Audit, Finance and Governance Committees.

MWESIGYE WILLIAM TIBYASA

Board Member

Born on August 23rd 1982, he attended Makerere College School. William has a Bachelors in International Business (BIB) from Makerere University and a Master of Science in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from Makerere University. This course introduced him to procurement reforms in Uganda, professional procurement practices based on set standards (PPDA), benchmarking with best practices to achieve value for money, supply chain management and integration. He also holds a Certificate in Public Private Partnership (PPP) attained from DFC Denmark.

Sheikh Ramathan Mugalu

Board Member

Sheikh Ramathan Mugalu is the Secretary General/Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC). He supports the governance organs, coordinates administration, corporate planning and development of the organization.

Hon. Judith Alyek

Board Member

Hon. Judith Alyek currently Woman MP Kole District has professional experience in Health Science of over 14 years. She has worked as a Technical Advisor Maternal and Child Health at AVSI, Senior Health Educator Dokolo District Local Government and Health Inspector Lira District Local Government. Other responsibilities she has held include; Chairperson HIV/AIDS Committee, Parliament of Uganda; District HIV/AIDS Focal Person, Dokolo District Local Government; Facilitator for Community Based Rural Development Course and worked with refugees in Bala stock farm IDP camp in Lira and other camps in Dokolo

UAC FOCUS

Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) was established under the Office of the President by statute of parliament in 1992 to coordinate the multi-sectoral response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
